Glass Painting with Frit (Frit Painting)
Art glass comes in several forms for use in creating art works. The most common glass forms used in fused glass are sheet glass, stringers, rods and frit. Frit is crushed sheet glass and comes in four gauges: course, medium, fine and powder. All of these various glass forms can be combined to create glass pictures. Each piece starts with a blank piece of sheet glass to which other cut pieces of sheet, stringer and rods may be added. These components can then be combined with frit to add color and depth to the piece. Frit paintings can be many layers and require multiple firings in the kiln to complete. Frit painting is a very creative process and almost always results in a stunning piece of art.
